Francis Dubé holds a doctorate (Ph.D.) in music education, obtained in 2006, and is a full professor of extracurricular instrumental pedagogy at Université Laval’s Faculty of Music in Quebec City. Trained as a pianist, he holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in performance from the Université de Montréal. Thanks to a grant from the French government in 1989-90, he was able to pursue a year of advanced studies in Paris. Many of his students have excelled in renowned competitions, winning first prizes at the Prix d’Europe, the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal and the Canadian Music Teachers’ Federation.

Mr. Dubé’s research is supported by grants from various organizations, including the Fonds de recherche Société et Culture du Québec (FRQSC), Santé (FRQS), the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), MITACS, World Heritage Canada, among others. His research interests focus on the use of educational games in music, the integration and enhancement of technology and creativity in music teaching and learning, and non-formal pedagogical methods for music aimed at promoting the well-being of young people.

In addition, Francis Dubé is regularly invited to give lectures and pedagogical workshops throughout North America, South America, Asia and Europe. He is also the founder and director of the “Laboratoire vivant” l’Université des jeunes musiciens (UJM) and co-directs the “Laboratoire de recherche en formation auditive et didactique instrumentale” (LaRFADI) within the Faculty of Music at Université Laval.
