Valerie Peters
Director

Valerie Peters is a full professor in the Faculty of Music at Université Laval. She worked as a high school music teacher for several years (1989-1995; 1998-2003). Since 2004, she has been responsible for music didactics courses at the high school level.  She served as Program Director of the Bachelor in music teaching from 2014 to 2018 and has been the Director of the Master’s and Doctoral programs in music education since 2020. Her funded research activities include: 

1) Multicultural and intercultural approaches in music. 

2) Understanding teenagers’ artistic learning and artistic engagement in the digital age; 3) Collaborative research on the working conditions, knowledge and practices of music teachers in Quebec. 

4) Implementing a knowledge mobilization plan for a community music organization; and 

5) Exploring how music learning acts as a protective factor by contributing to the development of socio-emotional skills in vulnerable populations.

Highly committed to the community, Professor Peters has worked closely with the non-profit organization Jeunes musiciens du monde to implement a knowledge mobilization plan based on research data on effective and accessible music teaching and learning strategies. Her recent scientific publications and involvement in the field demonstrate her social commitment and her desire to contribute to a better society by sharing her findings with various communities of teachers and learners.
