Aging of spoken language production in singers and non-singers

This research project focuses on the evolution of communication across the lifespan, with a particular interest in the potential influence of different musical activities on cognition and communication during normal aging, as well as in the context of cognitive decline. Led by principal investigator Pascale Tremblay, in collaboration with co-investigator Valerie Peters and other co-investigators, this project is supported by a generous grant of $238,035 from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC). We are determined to explore the mechanisms underlying the aging of verbal production, and to discover how music can play a key role in maintaining communication and cognition throughout life.
