My Body, My Instrument
A Digital Resource for Promoting Healthy and Sustainable Music Practice
My Body, My Instrument, is a digital resource developed by the Centre collégial de développement de matériel didactique (CCDMD). Created by Anne Ouellet-Demers, a kinesiologist, and Guillaume Fournier, a music teacher at Cégep de Saint-Laurent, the project aims to raise awareness among musicians about the importance of practicing their instrument in a way that respects and protects the body. Through a series of instructional videos, Anne Ouellet-Demers guides young instrumentalists in adopting efficient postures tailored to the specific demands of their instruments.
The videos address common challenges encountered by musicians in training and offer practical solutions based on principles of anatomy, biomechanics, and injury prevention. The featured instruments include the violin, trumpet, guitar, flute, piano, and drum set.
The Laboratory for Music Education, Well-Being, and Human Potential (Lab‑EMBEPH) contributed to the development of this project, which supports a broader mission of promoting health, well-being, and the sustainable development of music practices.
